Cool Sand

Cool Sand

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~ a warm spring day at the beach ~

"

       Art ~ compliments of dailypainters.com

It’s spring

and yet

May is hiding her flowery breeze

as the golden rays of summer

                         weave a tapestry

of Coppertone scented afternoons

and sizzling sand…

only cooled

as the ocean dances to shore

beckoning to children

and Mother’s escaping the heat

  under straw hats

and a quick pick from Barnes and Noble’s best seller list

Even the sand crabs are hiding

heads covered in cool sand

                   waiting

for marshmallow tipped waves

foamy and white

to quickly whisk them away

                         before

sunny cheeks and curious hands

carrying bright yellow pails

disrupt the serenity

                                                of cool sand…

Ms Jewel,

I have seen this picture before and oh how I remember the scent of coppertone in the summertime, As I am from California as well. I was raised by the ocean and this piece brought me back to that time and place. Thank you for sharing this memory lane piece.

I'm so glad my poem brought back good memories for you. Thanks for the lovely comment :) Julie
great pictures come to mind here Julie, I especially love those sand crabs urging the sea to come and save them from the buckets and pails, you should be on that Barnes and Noble's best seller list.....maybe you are :)

There is nothing like sitting by the ocean and being immersed in the surroundings. Your beautiful poem brought me back to that lovely place that I was privileged to visit just last weekend. Thank you for allowing me to go back to that moment, Julie :-)

Julie, Thanks for once again rubbing all beach-deprived landlubbers noses in it once again. 8^) Your imagery is always magical but one of the most vivid examples I can recall is this one from this piece: "for marshmallow tipped waves..." Priceless. If you were to put music to this it would HAVE TO be a Beach Boys tune. Excellent write. take care...dan

You are welcome on my beach anytime sweet friend! :) Julie
Here in Brazil we have a seaside small town called Subauma. This illuminated poem made me to go there one more time, in a very good remembrance. A plastic poem, where the images then are strong and suggestive. Who does not like to go to the beach? Who does not like to see the children there? This way you really captured the reality and put it in poetic words. Congratulations dear friend!

I must say Julie this piece really made me wish I was at the beach this weekend and not home. My grandparents own a beach house in Cayucus California and your words put me right on the bright beach with my toes in the sand... took me away from my reality for a little while :) Great write

"and a quick pick from Barnes and Noble’s best seller list" - this lends a seaside postcard feel to this chilled out (but quite balmy) write.
I loved the crustaceans hiding from the Sun - biding their time - hoping not to be picked off by gulls.
The beach is a wonderful place to let go and this part of the beach, that you pastelled here, is my new favourite spot.
Bravo Julie
