Cool Sand

Cool Sand

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~ a warm spring day at the beach ~

It’s spring

and yet

May is hiding her flowery breeze

as the golden rays of summer

                         weave a tapestry

of Coppertone scented afternoons

and sizzling sand…

only cooled

as the ocean dances to shore

beckoning to children

and Mother’s escaping the heat

  under straw hats

and a quick pick from Barnes and Noble’s best seller list

Even the sand crabs are hiding

heads covered in cool sand

                   waiting

for marshmallow tipped waves

foamy and white

to quickly whisk them away

                         before

sunny cheeks and curious hands

carrying bright yellow pails

disrupt the serenity

                                                of cool sand…

Ms Jewel,

I have seen this picture before and oh how I remember the scent of coppertone in the summertime, As I am from California as well. I was raised by the ocean and this piece brought me back to that time and place. Thank you for sharing this memory lane piece.

The thing I like best about your vividly descriptive message is the way you mix down-to-earth humanly observations (coppertone, best sellers, & sand castles) . . . with the purely natural ones (flowery breeze, sizzling sand, & marshmallow waves) -- nice blend. It's almost as if the natural essences are playing with the humanness.

What a delightful scene you paint with your words, Julie. Sorry I missed this one when you posted it. The mom reading while wearing a large brimmed hat, the children digging in the sand, the waves kissing the shore, and the aroma of Coppertone wafting through the air....the best sort of afternoon if you ask me. Absolutely wonderful! Lydi**

A nice contrast of the sizzling sand above and the cool sand below. You paint this summer picture from an interesting angle, and I like the details (Coppertone, Barnes and Noble, sand crabs hiding, and my favorite: marshmallow tipped waves).

Thank you John. A day at the beach is a poem waiting to happen! :) Julie
I do love the beach Julie. I have a favourite spot I like to disappear too when things get too much. Your imagery here makes it easy to close my eyes and just slip away to that such place.

Thank you
