Of all the countless things I will remember

it’s the way you loved me just as I am

You kissed me with closed eyes and yet you saw

all that is and all that I am

 

Broken and tattered, fragile in a storm

that brewed in shadows gray upon the clouds

 ‘til you released the rainbow colored hue

of beauty once in disarray

 

You rose to me as gently as the tide

with love as deep and peaceful as the sea

and reaching for you now you’re swept away

still the greatest love somehow stays

 

Bound and tethered to you, we still breathe

on winds of warmth that tease away the rain

on seabirds songs that fill the tender place

where my heart beats  only for you

 

Through setting suns and twilight painted dreams

and misty dawns in soft lavender blue

may it be your memory that keeps me here

missing you, yet there’s serenity

 

Yes, I believe in angels, for with your love

I found strength I never knew, but perhaps

you saw it when you kissed me with closed eyes

all that is and all that I am

That's a very strong outspoken piece...great job! It's funny how love can give us so much to talk and write about, huh? It's such a strong subject and I'm sure I'm not the only one that can say that too. You picked a great subject to talk about, my friend! Julie, Most if not all of your writes are romantic and sweet, cheerful and hopeful; this one is all of that but feels a lot more personal, then I noticed your Author's Note stating it is for your one true love and it made crystal clear sense. This is so beautiful and serene...when you mention sea birds I can almost hear the beautiful sound of the sea gulls calling to their brethren their mournful songs. This is simply lovely, Julie, but then that will never surprise me when reading one of your heartfelt pieces. take care...dan

beauty and loss ... in my younger days i was so content within my own being and took all the credit .. (silly me) my wife died suddenly at a very young age and through those days of grieving i was struck with the revelation that i was never alone ..never felt a need ... etc. because of her presence such as you speak of in your poem .. it brings a smile to me knowing that she chuckles with me (such a dumb guy:)

Or want to share.
But I always want to find time for the best things in life..... and one of those is the reading wonderful poetry.
And you are where I go when I want to read the best.

This is such a tender and sublime poem for the one you will always hold dear to your heart.
And each time I read a poem like this I know that his memory is forever strong in your soul.

True love is an unconditional love one that accepts us as we are and only our spirit can see when our eyes are closed because its eyes aren't made from flesh that only sees outward appearance and faults and you have described this love very well with verse great write Julie
