Longing sits softly on my windowsill

wistfully tethered to moonbeams and starlit wishes

I wish I may, I wish I might

 

If only

it were that easy

 

as dreams escape me...

 

How I ache for a whisper of you

of angel wings

                                                and eternal promises

                to take my breath away

like the breeze through the curtains

                                wrapping around me

                                                                in a moment of serenity

 

     A kiss of wind

upon a starlit wish

to soothe a shattered heart

that knew nothing of goodbye

The tone of this was beautifully matched to the picture which is my first praise. Secondly your word usage is wonderful in this. Nothing leaps out of place, everything flows without interrupting the tone of the narrator. Very well done. I loved it very much and it does tug on the heart strings as well. The structure and tone of this totally fit your picture. I like the wispy design that echos the wind that blows through your poem. The longing is not harsh, but more of a melancholy that you have set here, the kind set up by memories and maybe even knowing it will never be. Liked the opening line very Sandburg-ish. I'm glad I stopped to click on this little gem. It will go to my library as it is just a sigh, that I like to hold close, sometimes.
