Break My Heart

Break My Heart

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~ a love poem written in Espinela form ~

"

art ~ Henry Asencio

How shall I guard my heart from you

for you’re haunting my very soul

and all my dreams it seems you stole

in dark of night and daydreams too

It is as though this ache that grew

the warm desire that spread so fast

must be a spell that you have cast

to capture me with all your charms

So love, please hold me in your arms

and let my heart just break at last!

~~~
Author's Note
MsJewel
The espinela is a poem of 10 lines, with 8 syllables in each line. The rhyme scheme is abba accddc - and there is a break or pause after the 4th line, as illustrated. No set meter required, just the 8 syllables.
If only love could last, but we don't know how to make it last... People are to busy finding ways to be deceptive and secretive... Or only in it for a fix to loneliness and then when they feel good then it is time to move on.. I like this write thank you for sharing
So should we be happy or sad for your heart Julie? Cause where I went was to that Heart song, "He's A Magic Man". If off, then perhaps "Unchain My Heart" would be better. But in either case, you always intrigue with your "love scribbles"...
Powerfully written in tones of sad yet very much in control. Smiling, the only way I would even notice it has a formal style to it is if I am told about it. So thank you for the mini-lesson. Would lie and say that I am going to run off and try this form, but nah....I remain forever formless lol
Excellent write Ms. Jewel
You have always been good with form poetry...it never feels forced or paint by number when you write it. Beautiful sentiment....charismatic. Lydi**
Giving in to inevitable desires and healing after an infatuated heartbreak is something we have to face in order to be strong in relationships. Loved the emotional depth you've displayed here. Great work. An emotionally well written masterpiece. :)
Thank you so much for the lovely comment :) Julie
Regardless of the format, your work is always so beautiful. I would like to see a style named "Juile" it doesn't matter how many lines, syllables, rhymes or anything, as long as it is gorgeous. Once again, I really enjoy your poety.
To be able to write something so beautiful while adhering to all those rules and formats, is just amazing.
And you are definitely blessed to have such incredible talent.
And the way you invoke emotion through such simple words is simply wonderful.
The last two lines were just wow!
LOVED IT!
Brilliant writing.
Thank you for sharing!
Some dances we know will leave us heart broken and sad. Still we join in the dance. Thank you for the amazing poem my friend.
You are welcome Julie.
If no reference to form had been made I would have just commented on how flwoingly attractive this writing is. The humble moment of acceptance that the situation requires help is beautiful. From where? unknown but what is clear is the ffects of such enchanting alluere. Stealing from daylight at nigthtime too. As if touched by a spell becuase the power of the desire grew too much too fast. Encompassing all that is the acknowledgment of a form.
Clever crafty and enchanting.
Thankyou
I have always admired your patience in following these formats -- they seem unforced when you are done. This type of writing is so foreign to me I end up feeling like I wrote a bad greeting card and am too shy to post them so they go straight to trash. A nice poem. Well done.
