In the Shade

In the Shade

A Poem by MsJewel

                   photograph ~ compliments of pinterest

It is quiet

in the shade

watching the blue light call

for an afternoon of daydream skies

      filled with rose petal wishes

                The ocean answers

a soft serenade of wandering tide

or perhaps a lament of hopes sailing away

too soon to tell I fear

Shall I rid myself of you…

of daydreams whispering on sunlit tides

and roses blooming on vines

tangled in a verse

          written only for two?

My hand is lonely, empty without yours

and yet,

                                 prickly

are those rose petal wishes

swords piercing my heart…

‘til tides are silent and wishes lay mute

                                 on soured lips

Bitter is the taste

                        in the shade

You are by far my favorite poet. The way you words things delve within me and touch every aspect of my heart... I will follow your poetry devoutly. I enjoy the passion and the wording of it. It is all relatable and lets us know we are human for feeling a certain way. CHEERS!

Love the ending...the shade is an odd place to be...it provides relief from the heat, yet it separates you from the light...I think some others have mentioned this in their reviews, but the bittersweet undercurrent is a bit of a departure for you...still this piece is unmistakably you with its gentle beauty and enchanting imagery...gorgeous work as always my friend :)

And the same to you my friend :)
This is really beautiful, despite its melancholy feel, or maybe because of it.

So this is like lonesome shade. Great. I turned your poem into a country western song.

Hi Julie, this is why I don't hang out on the beach, looking out at the "blue", cause my mind would wander to "dreams" and then to the realization of "my hand is lonely".. you've woven a "bitter taste" that can even be found in the brightest of days... you know, I don't think you could "rid myself of you" even if you tried too... like this poem, they are too bound up with who you are.. which is why you write such romantic poetry, even if "bitter tasting"...

cool poem Julie, I felt that ocean breeze as I read your words..

"Shall I rid myself of you…
of daydreams whispering on sunlit tides
and roses blooming on vines
tangled in a verse
written only for two?"

Even beautiful places can become lonely. The good description took me to the sea and missing someone. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
