First Kiss

I won't forget the lovely bliss

of tender warmth found in a kiss

that left a blush upon my cheek

‘twas softer than a butterfly

whispering through a crystal sky

light as a breath, no words to speak

 

Just peacefulness surrounding me

as flowers bloomed in harmony

and in the trees, I reminisce,

of birds in song weaving sunbeams

around my heart and now it seems

I won't forget summer’s first kiss

Author's Note

The sextilla, or Spanish sestet is a type of sestet (6 line verse) that follows a set rhyme pattern. The rhyme pattern can be either aabccb or abbacc. Each line usually has 8 syllables. You may have more than one sextilla in a poem, but it must follow the same rhyme pattern.

I thought it was about an actual first kiss, and I was going to say, hey, mine wasn't so hot -- no offense to the boy, whose name I do remember, but I will be nice enough not to print. This is a helluva lot better than a real first kiss, sloppy, awkward, and bumping noses.

This poem is special in all those ways,
it tells a story, is sweet, romantic, sensual and entertaining to read.

I was raised catholic, so kissing was always a big thing with us...
so we learned to appreciate it...and that first kiss especially..the anticipation and then finally the lips meeting...hopeful that both sides will want more.
