Forever in My Heart

Forever in My Heart

Today

        I brought you flowers

a dozen carnations in red, white and blue

I would have picked them from mama’s garden

but it seems her flowers have refused to acknowledge springtime

this year

No this year

I bought them from a woman with grey hair

and bright pink lipstick,

           who blessed me

as she stroked the big yellow tabby

catching a nap in the shade of her folding chair

I wanted poppies…

in remembrance of the little red paper ones

you handed out in front of the grocery store on Veterans Day

You always looked so handsome in your dress uniform

proudly displaying your medals

        So tall…so strong…so brave…a hero

                         My hero…

Today

I brought you flowers…

           carnations

but in my heart…they are poppies

I love you Dad

Happy Father’s Day

There are so many hidden little gems in this write. The loss of a mother, the pride in a military man you know as your father, and the faith and loving devotion of a daughter all shine bright upon the colors of tribute you penned here Julie. A gift of poetry I am sure your father will cherish more than anything you could have bought for him.
I like how this ties in with your red poppy poem as well btw...

It must be a point of pride to have this written about one's self by such a love-artist.

Makes the memories come alive.
