Cat and Mouse

Cat and Mouse

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~ prelude to Trace's "Hearts Desire" ~

"

Blue eyes meet brown across the dimly lit room

a quick glance…just a glimpse

held for a heartbeat

as shy smiles are exchanged

She averts her eyes, studying the cocktail napkin

tucked neatly under her wine glass

Glancing up again

brown eyes have still held the gaze and his smile remains

She looks away

crossing and uncrossing her long legs

Not uncomfortable

….breathless…

Slowly lifting her wine glass to her lips, she looks over again

He is speaking with the bartender,

his sparkling brown eyes peeking through the waves of dark hair

boyishly falling across his forehead

Handsome

refined

a gentlemen

He glances back toward her

She looks away quickly

as perfectly painted nails stroke the long stem of her wine glass,

a fevered blush staining her cheeks

~ A cat and mouse game has begun ~

The butterflies have taken wing

starting in her throat

fluttering in her stomach

Tucking a long strand of gold hair behind a jeweled ear,

she looks up again

He’s gone!

A soft sigh is released from her berry lips

Disappointment

an unexplained hint of sadness

maybe next time

Suddenly

a red rose appears

next to her wine glass

Looking up

she is startled by those same brown eyes

"More wine?" he asks with a smile

Thanks so much! Your comment truly has made my day! :) Julie
You and Trace write beautifully together, two individuals who truly understand the pure essence of romance/love. I enjoyed this piece, and look forward to reading "Hearts Desire" and Act 2.

The form, with which you Julie mirrors the sense of scene which is being described.

Reading this, reminds me of Alicia's writing, another poet who posts for this site....if you haven't already, take a look at hers - Alicia Huntley.

Yours and her writing both exude conviction, and compliment meaning.

The feeling you describe here is how I felt the first time I saw the man who ended up marrying me. Great job.

dear Julie... I remember playing cat and mouse.
Very much like a "Play"...the first act is shy and
suggestive... the intermission... sad. The final act
as beautiful as a red rose of passion. truly.. Intimate...
