Midnight Madness

Midnight Madness

A Poem by MsJewel

Black Friday Midnight Special! Big Screens three hundred bucks!

Wow!  What a terrific deal…I guess I have good luck

I’m tired of watching Housewives on my little black and white

Fifty-two inches of color would be such a delight!

Its ten degrees at midnight, we might as well have snow

And the line I’m standing in just seems to grow and grow

Four long hours later, the doors swing open wide

I wipe the ice off my nose as we crowd inside

Grandma’s there with Grandpa and Aunt Alice too

She brought all her children and she has a few

My neighbors and the postman, the preacher and his wife

Are running through the store..hang on for dear life!

The shopping carts are blazing down isles made for two

High pitched squeals and pushing to find something brand new

A sea of bodies finds me, claustrophobia I dread

Big screens are out on aisle six…great, that’s straight ahead

This is pure insanity, everyone wants the same

I see the one I really need…this is such a wicked game

Because as I reach the front, I can see the sign

SORRY WE ARE ALL SOLD OUT, BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!

I can’t believe my eyes! How could this be the case?

I’m staring at the Preacher with a big grin on his face

It appears he got the last one and he’s not letting go

I am mad as hell right now…I’m gonna let him know

But as I approach him, I can’t help but ponder

Was it my Sunday donation that put me asunder?

If I had kept the money, would I have been the one

Holding that new big screen and having much more fun

So now that I have wasted the best hours of the day

I drag my sorry butt back home, wondering how much I’ll pay

For the big screen of my dreams, I can’t take anymore

There goes that black and white shattered on the floor!

Tis the season to go crazy in the isles again.

I already bought my large screen TV on sale
Then the next day the price dropped another $60.00.

Hope new writers get to enjoy this great collaboration
and others get to laugh at this piece.

So enjoyed writing this with you.

HUGGS. . Trace

Happy Hallowthanksmas!!!
Trace and Julie, this one has me smiling. Sorry you didn't get the TV....do you think the preacher had divine inspiration? Not sure if "isle" is a typo or if you meant to spell it that way because on a crazy sale day, it can seem like you have to travel the aisles to get to an "isle" of reduced prices. The rhyming is delightful and so rhythmic. As always, the two of you blend words seamlessly. Lots of laughs in this one. Lydi**
