Midnight Madness

Midnight Madness

A Poem by MsJewel

a collaboration with my friend Trace

Black Friday Midnight Special! Big Screens three hundred bucks!

Wow!  What a terrific deal…I guess I have good luck

I’m tired of watching Housewives on my little black and white

Fifty-two inches of color would be such a delight!

Its ten degrees at midnight, we might as well have snow

And the line I’m standing in just seems to grow and grow

Four long hours later, the doors swing open wide

I wipe the ice off my nose as we crowd inside

Grandma’s there with Grandpa and Aunt Alice too

She brought all her children and she has a few

My neighbors and the postman, the preacher and his wife

Are running through the store..hang on for dear life!

The shopping carts are blazing down isles made for two

High pitched squeals and pushing to find something brand new

A sea of bodies finds me, claustrophobia I dread

Big screens are out on aisle six…great, that’s straight ahead

This is pure insanity, everyone wants the same

I see the one I really need…this is such a wicked game

Because as I reach the front, I can see the sign

SORRY WE ARE ALL SOLD OUT, BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!

I can’t believe my eyes! How could this be the case?

I’m staring at the Preacher with a big grin on his face

It appears he got the last one and he’s not letting go

I am mad as hell right now…I’m gonna let him know

But as I approach him, I can’t help but ponder

Was it my Sunday donation that put me asunder?

If I had kept the money, would I have been the one

Holding that new big screen and having much more fun

So now that I have wasted the best hours of the day

I drag my sorry butt back home, wondering how much I’ll pay

For the big screen of my dreams, I can’t take anymore

There goes that black and white shattered on the floor!

Tis the season to go crazy in the isles again.

I already bought my large screen TV on sale
Then the next day the price dropped another $60.00.

Hope new writers get to enjoy this great collaboration
and others get to laugh at this piece.

So enjoyed writing this with you.

You captured it all in this poem. Maybe its not the Big screen you wanted but something else instead. Just saying -blushing-

I had to work 18 hours. I work in retail. Your poem told the truth. Black Friday is madness. If I didn't have to work. I would stay home in my bed. A realistic poem for one of the craziness nights of the year. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

This is perfect. Both of you have come together and produced one of the best Black Friday commentaries I've ever read. I really wanted to write something on the Thanksgiving/Black Friday conundrum, but I've had no words lately whatsoever. Oh well, this piece is as good as it gets anyway...awesome job :)

LOL! This really has me chuckling, Julie and Trace - a vivid retelling of that hectic experience! My sister goes out every year for Black Friday shopping - that crazy gene must have skipped me! ;) Love this fun piece!

I am giving you a standing ovation! First, this is way out of your comfort zone and you nailed it! Second, there is a message inside of it! Subtle but present. Bravo for that! Third, is genuinely funny! All of it effortlessly! Honey, you need to expand beyond love in your writings! You are too good to put barriers to your talent!
