A Kiss Unshared

A Kiss Unshared

love poem

Beyond the still of night, beyond the sky

and further than the tide meets skies above

where moonlight pales, sheer as a ghost

glimmers as it haunts…visions of love

reflect upon  the waves and as they dance

in foamy white and mist upon the beach

I’m softly swept away as the night calls

and still the moon, this love is out of reach

And in this dark that widens every eye

where tender shadows float gracefully

words gentle as a breath, but never said

echo in my heart and follow me

Though never dripped from honey tongue or lips

silky smooth and sweet, a kiss unknown

to a nightingale in song or melodies…

a silent longing now I fear I own

Beyond this tide that settles with unrest

yet etched upon my heart so tenderly

is love, a kiss…still unshared to wait

beyond the horizon, haunting me

Your poem, to borrow your theme, is truly haunting. Your style is very refined. I am always appreciative of modesty, and you say your poetry isn't unique in anyway in your "about" section, but the truth is that it IS unique because you show the subtlety of emotion and detail that I am always sorry I do rarely see on this site in others' poetry. "Sheer as a ghost" is a lovely line. You have a terrific realism that combines with a deep symbolism, so that you can use descriptive language and still make it meaningful. Many people have to abuse and stretch the meanings of words, but you don't need to because you make the scenery and meanings clear enough to have the duel meanings implicit in their semantic quality. I like that you say, for example, "This dark that widens every eye." It is both figuratively true and also literally true. This is what I mean by using realism and symbolism together without having to stretch your language. I am a huge fan of words and not having to bend them, and I appreciate very much your ability to do so. I'm impressed. This is my kind of poetry!

hauntingly beautiful is all I can say. The longing and need that engulfs her is wonderfully brought out. My favourite line is 'a silent longing now I fear I own.'Absolutely loved it and I hope to see more of your writing soon:)

Thank you my sweet friend. :) Julie
hauntingly beautiful...but i feel this...in a long distance relationship...lots of time in between real kisses...until then, the tide brings in dreams of them.

And I you and yours, Julie. :)
Your poetic style is lilting and appeals to all the senses...I can practically here the waves on the shore here, and I can most certainly feel the breaths of whispered words never said...I certainly relate to that part as well as the ending...I know how it feels to be haunted by tides of unrest...I've only started reading your work recently but I can already say that your poetry speaks to me on many levels, deep ones especially :)
