All the Other Reasons Why

All the Other Reasons Why

A Poem by MsJewel
"

memories of someone very special

"

art ~ steve hanks

~~~
The summer breeze was always a little warmer
on the top step of Grandma’s porch
where two little girls, blue eyed and tow headed
dressed in angel wings, maryjanes and mischievous smiles
(a bit sticky from the blackberries that were supposed to be for Grandma’s pie)
were positive they could touch the clouds
given a running jump and of course a breezy afternoon
And years later,
the step is just as creaky
the breeze is just as warm
and although we never did touch the clouds
(not together anyway)
you got to fly
on a new pair of wings
While mine are tucked safely away in a special place
with maryjanes and breezy afternoons and grandma’s blackberry pie
and all the other reasons why I love summer...
because you loved it too
~~~

What a lovely picture your flowing words have painted here and believe it or not it got this old man slipping back into his own childhood summers...I thank you for that. Your friend in words, Pete

This was a delightful read, albeit bittersweet, delicate and eloquent reminiscing on your page. Really so touching Julie.

A beautiful but very sad poem, Julie. Your love for your sister permeates your write and makes this a very special poem.
