Of All My Stars...

Of All My Stars...

A Poem by J.P. Bristow
"

A nod to Pablo Neruda and the boy who could fly.--repost

"

The only boy I ever loved
Used to read me
Neruda from my nightstand

In elongated tones
He would repeat words of such passion
From a hot pink paperback

Leafing through love

In a faded t-shirt
He drove me to distraction
I never knew quite why?

This soft spoken boy with a hiccupping giggle
And eyes that windowed unfathomable greatness
Possessed me with such ease

I loved the feel of my ear to his chest
As he read and breathed
Breathed and read

Turning pages in slow calculation
Casually whetting his fingertip

I would rest my palm over his heart
Gently clinging to love
As he ran his fingers through my hair

Closing my eyes
With a smile pressed to his skin
I would drown in his scent

Willingly.

You had me in this read and then:

Turning pages in slow calculation
Casually whetting his fingertip
---
Turning pages in slow calculation
Casually wetting his fingertip
---
a minor bump in the road --- as for the way this slowly burns the reader --- the ending is quite a finish line...yet leaves us with wanting more in the closure...

Brilliant stuff. I loved this. I normally say which lines I like in a poem, but I like all of them here. It is just gentle, calm, delicate and accomplished in all sorts of ways. The moment and the poem are on the same footing, both happy, and the latter reflects the former. 'Eelongated/faded/casually' these words just work do well. We can damn well hear him, see him lick his fingertips, and damn well hear his heart beating. Damn good this is.

By the way, I hope you will see this review. I see you have not been here for some time. Just to say I was reading through all my friends here. Many I cld not really fix in my head as having left any impression on me. But when I got to the page with your avatar on it I instantly started to look fwd to something good. I wld say that out of about 200 friends here less than 10 make me feel like that. I am just sad that you seem to have left this parish.

There is no one like Neruda is there, and with this piece you do his influence on you justice..

Wonderfully done.
