The intangibility of our illegibility

The intangibility of our illegibility

A Poem by Julianna Marie

One of us is pretending,
the other is lost"
we’ve both disappeared into smoke,
we’ve both disappeared beneath buildings of ash.
What were the flotation devices we used to thrive upon?
How did we ever keep ourselves above this?
Both of us are pretending
(to be lost,)
Can anyone hear one of us weep
as we drown beneath the smoke?
Can anyone see one of us wince
as we transcend into smoke?
We are going to saunter off and fade away,
leaving steaks of grey
in one another’s lungs.
How did we ever keep ourselves
(above this?)
