You of Me and Me of YouA Poem by Julianna Marie
I’ve been crawling under doormats,
thinking they were blankets. You’ve been walking into houses, thinking they were homes. I was crawling into your heart, thinking it was my own. You were walking out of my mind, thinking it was yours. We were living in reflections, so impossibly the same. We were living in reflections, You of me and me of you (and we both know we hate ourselves.) You of me and me of you, I’m looking into mirrors so strikingly vivid; (I'll hate you for everything I am.) Mimed movements across lines of latitude and longitude, mimed movements across shards of you and shards of me-- You're looking into mirrors coated in frost-bitten elliptical patterns; (You'll hate me for everything I'm not.)
We can’t help ourselves, we were made for this. This will be the one thing we do right. © 2011 Julianna MarieReviews
