Whispers

Whispers

A Poem by Julianna Marie

You have no eyes,
you cannot see.
You have no mouth,
you cannot speak.
Would you like to borrow mine?
Actually, I like you better that way.
I have no eyes,
because they only see you.
I have no mouth,
because it only speaks of you.
And you liked me better before
Before I was alive,
Before I died.
But which came first?
I noticed you're wearing black,
what's the occasion?
A funeral for me,
a funeral for you,
a funeral for us.
I have no eyes, so I cannot cry.
Can I borrow yours?
My casket is empty,
grave robbers again.
I'll have to thank them for setting me free.
Free? What was I thinking?
Only free to be encaged by these bars made of thoughts.
My mind will always remain a prison,
but at least I'm not locked up with you.
I am not staying here,
I am staying away
--from you.
You are not staying there,
you are staying away
--from me.
Should I put the words softly?
You have no need,
You have no want,
You have no love,
--for me.
And I'll whisper the truth,
I think I'll always need,
I'll always want,
I'll always love,
--you.
