Little white lies

Little white lies

A Poem by Julianna Marie

Under the stars we hid from each night,
we said the words we didn't mean;
"I feel so alive when I'm with you,"
I said without a pulse.
"I love you,"
you whispered without a heart.
And our lips formed the bond
our souls never could...
My hands tried to rip away your layers
and expose you for who you really were.
Your hands tried to rip away my layers
and steal all I ever was.
The sky began to blush as your cheeks began to flush,
and you said one blanket wasn't enough.
The ice of the morning chewing away at my skin,
goosebumps rising to cover my sin...
And I wish I could look into your eyes and tell you
everything was real,
and I wish I could look into your eyes at all,
but I always look down when I lie.
I'll look down on you when this is all over,
I'll look down on you,
to feel better about myself,
but I know I am nothing.
"You're my everything," you lie through your teeth,
but I know I am nothing.
I am everything to no one,
I am nothing.
Nothing,
Nothing,
Nothing.
...that's all I ever was.
