The War

The War

A Poem by Julianna Marie

Oh, when it comes
when it comes
to winning our successful war,
we'll discard our bloodshed
as shedding our skin,
and take our new identies as our consolation prizes.
I'll look back and wonder,
why didn't I just let them kill me?
I am not a figther,
I am a lover--
but sometimes, you have to fight for what you love.
And if I showed up at your doorstep,
dying before your eyes,
would you love me just the same?
And if I showed up at your doorstep,
dying before your eyes,
would it change anything?
I convince myself
I was fighting for a just cause
You convince yourself
you were fighting for a lost cause.
Your white flag of surrender
has become the white of my pupils.
Your white flag of surrender
has become the white of your escape.
We've shed our blood,
now lets shed our skin!
In a war of hearts,
neither side can win.

No winner in any type war. Leave only sadness and heart brake. I like the way you compare war to love. In the end if we are not careful can be the same. Total poem was amazing. You are a very good writer. Can tell a story with your words. A excellent poem.
