Apathy

Apathy

A Poem by Julia

A person may be judged by age
in ways that no one can grasp
regardless of the years passed
The people of every generation have souls of all ages

A man, now past his prime slips slowly into an eternal childlike state
A child, forced to experience far more than any child should now has no time for play
They walk as you and I but see differently than you would expect

Days come and go
becoming shorter and darker by the minute
the court decides whether a child has the mental maturity to make a decision
regarding his or her life
and yet they'll allow a crazy man to decide another's fate
Life or Death

What say you?
If a child can be forced to live in pain because of a court's say so
If a man can be condemned to death because of a crazy man's dream
what's in your future?
The man or the child?

In a world
of complete suffering
Soldiers are sent into war
Husbands and fathers lay wounded, dying
swords pierced by blades of the Unknown Soldier
a death seem fit for a burden
a burden, born from pride and honor

Very interesting poem, Julia. By what standards, is a person considered to be "crazy" or "mature, beyond their years"? Any standards, which we do, come up with are totally subjective and open to interpretation. As for the "crazy" man, i think you're referring to, either Saddam or G.W. Bush. Either one, i would fit into that category, but this is my personal opinion. Thank you, for sharing this very thought provoking poem with us.

PS: i noticed that you meant to write "whether" instead of "wether".
