A Night OutA Stage Play by JuliaJune and Chris have different plans.(June and Chris sit at a table at Olive Garden. June has a cold.) Chris: I’m really glad we got to see each other tonight. June: I am, too. It has been a while, hasn’t it? I’m sorry, school really just gets in the way sometimes. Chris: Oh, right. How is that going, by the way? June: It’s going pretty well, I just have a lot of homework. Chris: I can imagine….how’s the cold? June: It isn’t too bad, just your average plague. No big deal, I’m sure it’ll be fine when I go home and get some sleep. Chris: Right. So I’ve been thinking a lot about our future… June: I think about the future, too. You know, I really need to do well in school if I’m going to be a biologist. Chris: I know. And you’ll be great at it, I’m sure. You’re brilliant-- June: Thank you, really. And I really appreciate how understanding you’ve been these last few months. Chris: I do understand, school is important to you, I get that. June: Right, it just gets kind of overwhelming sometimes. Like for instance, I have this test tomorrow-- Chris: Sure, sure. If we can’t see each other tomorrow, I get it. What’s one day when we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together? June: Right! And I mean, what’s one night? Chris: Exactly. So I spoke to your dad the other day" June: Oh, really? Chris: Yeah. We were talking about our relationship" June: Yeah, he seems pretty happy about our relationship. Chris: He is. So we were talking about where the two of us should go from here… June: Things are going to be a lot easier when I’m done with school. Biology can be a tough field to break into. Chris: I’m sure it’ll be easy enough for you, you’ll be a great biologist. And a great mom. June: Thanks, I hope so. But you know, I really do need to study if I’m ever going to get there. © 2014 JuliaAuthor's Note
