My Little GemA Poem by JulesThe bonding between mother and child and the closeness of the father.A wondrous gift – a little gem, eyes gazing up at me. Hands so small, lips intent, and so much dependency. A new life born from so much love and I hold her to my breast. Eyes fill up and my chin wobbles, heart pounding in my chest. Strangers we are but not for long as bonding takes its place. Lips pouted and a good pair of lungs and determination in her face. Two parents watch with keen interest as she changes day by day. Time whizzes by and our little gem is having her first birthday. The sleepless nights the days of worry when our little gem was ill. All a part of being a parent and time doesn’t stand still. Her fathers love, just as strong guides her through the day. To see such warmth and cherish such love watching them both at play. A bond initially between mother and child, and now between father as well. Three lives that are inter-connected, like living under a spell. As time passes by and the years move on my little gem is little no more. Grace and beauty are just some of her qualities, but the individual she is I adore. And so my little gem, what more can I say but when life seems sad and we’re apart You’re the air that I breathe, the blood in my veins And will always remain in my heart. © 2008 JulesReviews
