Woe Is Me!A Poem by Julian Lorenzana
WOE IS ME!
SELF PITY IN THE WORLD ABOUNDS, AND WE ALL WANT TO BE THE KINGS. “MINE IS WORSE” GO THE SOUNDS. THAT CRY JUST ABOUT EVERYONE SINGS.
WE ALL WANT TO SING OUR WOES. EACH ONE OF US THINKS WE’RE UNIQUE. EACH ONE THINKS HE ALONE FEELS THE LOWS. BUT THAT WAIL IS SURELY ANTIQUE.
THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS IT WELL. IT HAS BEEN WITH US MANY TIMES BEFORE. AND IT WILL ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS DWELL. IT HAS BEEN THERE SINCE THE TIMES OF YORE.
WE THINK OUR PAIN IS BEYOND COMPARE, THAT IN OUR HEARTS IT HURTS THE MOST, BECAUSE, AT TIMES, THAT PAIN WE CANNOT BEAR, AND THAT ONLY ON US IT HURTS THE WORST.
BUT SUFFERING IN EVERYONE IS FOUND. BUT IN OTHERS, SOMETIMES WE CANNOT SEE. WE SIMPLY IGNORE SOMEONE ELSE’S SOUND, BECAUSE THE KINGS OF IT WE WANT TO BE.
ONCE WE NOTICE SOMEONE ELSE’S PAIN, WE VERY READILY COME TO REALIZE, THAT CRYING ABOUT IT IS QUITE IN VAIN, AND SEEING HIS WOES WILL MAKE US WISE.
THAT OTHERS’ PAIN IS WORSE, WE FIND, AND OUR AWFUL PAIN BEGINS TO EASE. WHEN THAT HAPPENS IN OUR MINDS, THAT THOUGHT GIVES US A LITTLE PEACE.
FROM THAT TIME, ON OUR PAIN SUBSIDES AND IN OUR HEARTS SOME PITY WE FEEL. THOUGH THAT PAIN IN US STILL ABIDES, WE THINK OUR PAIN ISN’T A GREAT DEAL
OUR PAIN’S STILL HERE, IT IS NOT GONE. IT WILL STILL FEEL AS IF WE’RE NOT WELL. FOR SURE OUR SUFFERING WILL GO ON. BUT SOMEONE ELSE IS GOING THROUGH HELL!
“THE GRASS IS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE” FROM SOMEONE’S MOUTH THAT SAYING ONCE BURST. IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE IT, YOUR HEAD MUST BE DENSE. I KNOW THAT PAIN ON THAT SIDE COULD BE THE WORST. © 2017 Julian Lorenzana |
