My Birthday Is Coming

My Birthday Is Coming

A Poem by Julian Lorenzana

My Birthday Is Coming

My birthday is coming

And I’m kind of sad

It’s kind of alarming

“Cause I’m kind of mad

Nothing I’ve been told

As the day approaches

Everybody is so cold

And that cold encroaches

They are all so mum

Not a word they’re saying

Not even a hum

In respect they’re paying

I would rather hear

In my ear the ringing

‘Cause my day’s so near

Someone’s happy singing

For then I would know

That they are aware

And that way they’ll show

That for me they care

I will have to wait

To see what they do

A gift would be great

A hug will be, too

But now that I’m old

A hug will suffice

For spending the gold

Is a sacrifice

That I’m eighty-three

I don’t want to shout

I don’t want to be

About my age proud

I’ve lived long enough

And lived with great passion

But life has been tough

Please, God, have compassion

If I live much longer

Give me your protection

Please make me much stronger

And filled with elation

a lovely write! birthdays are exciting for all, even for the seniors, although the juniors seemed to be more excited on the outside. they show it by jumping, hoping and all sorts of activities, but the seniors can merely pass a smile and that smile can lighten up anyone's day! a beautiful poem!
loved it!
keep writing :D
