Get to Work, Young ChildrenA Poem by Julian LorenzanaGet To Work, Young Children
Come on, you little fellas, Their tables will be full get down to doing your work. Of many goods to eat. Our day has just now started Their houses will be mansions. and there’s a lot to do. Their cars will be the best.
You have to learn your lessons, When you compare your station or you’ll stay far behind. with those who always led, You don’t want other children You then will start regretting to be better than you. not having done your work.
You don’t know what it’s like You’ll work without a chance to trail behind the lead of ever catching up. They call you little turtle. You’ll gripe, you’ll moan, you’ll wail They call you real bad things but all to no avail.
And when you’re all grown up, So get to work, young children, you’ll have a real hard time. if you don’t want to fail. A job you may not find. Remember what will happen And if you do, it’s minor. when you are all grown up.
All those who took the lead All those who tried will lead when you just wouldn’t cut it, a real successful life. They will enjoy the harvest And those who failed to try, of all their past good work. real sorry they will be.
