With a Smile on My Face

With a Smile on My Face

A Poem by Julian Lorenzana

WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE

WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE

AND A SONG IN MY HEART

I WILL GREET EVERY MORNING

THOUGH TODAY MY SWEETHEART

INTO SHREDS BROKE MY HEART

AND SHE LEFT ME IN MOURNING

SHE HAS FOUND A NEW LOVE

AND, ALTHOUGH I FEEL SAD,

I WILL HAVE TO FORGET HER

ONLY GOD UP OBOVE

KNOWS EXACTLY HOW BAD

I WISH WE WERE TOGETHER

ALL THOSE HAPPY DAYS GONE

AND THE THINGS THAT WE SHARED

HAVE ALL BEEN LEFT BEHIND

BUT MY LIFE MUST GO ON

AND, THOUGH FOR HER I CARED

AND MY HEART’S LESS THAN FINE

HAPPINESS WILL BE MINE

WHEN A NEW LOVE I FIND

BROKEN HEARTS, WE MAY THINK,

WHEN THE WOUND IS STILL NEW,

LAST FOREVER AND EVER

THOUGH REAL LOW WE MAY SINK,

ALL NEW LOVES, IN MY VIEW,

WILL REPLACE THEM FOREVER

THAT IS WHY I WILL SMILE,

I WILL SING, I WILL DANCE

THOUGH I’LL BE HURTING SOME

FOR I’LL KNOW ALL THE WHILE

THAT THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE

THAT A NEW LOVE WILL COME

ALL THOSE HAPPY DAYS GONE

AND THE THINGS THAT WE SHARED

HAVE ALL BEEN LEFT BEHIND

BUT MY LIFE MUST GO ON

AND, THOUGH FOR HER I CARED

AND MY HEART’S LESS THAN FINE.

HAPPINESS WILL BE MINE

WHEN A NEW LOVE I FIND
