today is goodbye

a poem written on the day I spread my mother's ashes on the beach of Jamaica

Focused with the determination of a violent storm
Churning in the undulating waters of endless ache
My heart is left behind

The tears come at a whim, with no repair
Staying only long enough to remember
One less star in the sky to shine

The strength I possess to grant your wish
Came from you, yet no peace from this will come
Today is goodbye

I only hope that from your kitchen on high
You see that I am all that you asked
Though the words were never said

I will grant no quarter to those who see
You, as anything less than true
Fed many strangers, but never knew one

Methods may have left doubt for many
But results cannot be tainted
By the way of the world

Though I can't tell the same stories as most
And until the end, I had only a few
You are my mother, and how I love you

Today is goodbye,you are set free
Wherever you choose to go from where we part
Know you are with us all, as you wanted it to be
