The Truth

The Truth

A Story by Judy Basmaji

The truth is that the less significant part of most human lives is made of the common yet inevitable and seemingly useless action of waiting. It is not much of an action, really. We do what we must to keep going simply due to the lack of other options, but it is only part of the subconscious process of holding out for more. We wait for love, we wait for luck, we wait for affection and appreciation, and we wait for death. The earthly purposes we set for ourselves are nothing but means of survival and inner satisfaction; things we attempt to do as we wait for life to pass by.

The truth is that true freedom, in the essential literal meaning of the word, does not exist. It is an illusion, a dream within a dream, meant to give us hope. Freedom is to do as one chooses without being held back by anything. But our fears, our wants, our needs will always hold us back. As long as we are human we will never be free. Freedom exists only in death. The truth is we are all capable of murder, indefinite brutality and inhumanity. There are things within us that we will never uncover. The kind of person we are only depends on which side of our nature is nurtured in the environment we are raised in.

The truth is that we have no way of ever knowing if God is truly good, that our beliefs are nothing but theories and assumptions, and that no matter how much we believe, we cannot turn theories into facts. There is no way of ever knowing if God has a hand in the dealings of the world. It is quite possible that the truth is life is one infinitely long chain reaction, and that our only purpose is to get through it. The truth will set you free of the lies only to pin you down with its unbearable weight. Perhaps the lies are a gentler path to take after all.

Very deep. Beautifully written, I have a question. What about hallucinations, the kind that take you to a realm in which you have never seen before, that encompasses infinite beauty, infinite vibrations of goodness, wholeness, completeness, and not through self-induced drugs, a natural euphoria of one's mind? These hallucinations which can be coined as visions, depict a real utopia in which you are one with the being we have coined and believe to be evident as God. The creator of all good, and any other inclination of evil is from our own decision -chain reaction- of the first humans to ever exist, who made a wrong decision, and didn't think forgiveness would be an option but rather, hid like we all do when we make a mistakes. Never to realize that forgiveness is right around the corner if we first forgive ourselves, paradise was never taken away by God just we lost it when we feared asking for his grace ourselves. Opposed to freedom, the entire world just simply forgot that we needed forgiveness, that could be very well the reasoning for Jesus coming to remind the world that no sin is too big or small for the father in heaven, God understands, he is compassionate, he knows we are capable of all things, yet when we know he knows that, we would just strive to be like him, because he is the best representation of goodness. But, we forgot what paradise was, forgot who God was, and all along he now sends the special people in our world, lovers to remind us, each of us like adam and eve, or even adam and adam, eve and eve, constantly creating someone as our companion- hoping two remember, hoping two can recall paradise. And once it occurs, when you no longer wait, and time is infinite, what can this be defined as- Peace? And if this is peace, could it start a chain reaction that would lead to eternal peace for the world, which is what heaven truly is?

In Bonifacio, the town in France I spent the last two years of my life in, there are cliffs all around. One day, struck and hungry for some answer to the burning questions and ideas that tend to consume me, I decided to go hiking. I could have taken the path most took, but I decided to climb and take the harder path. I bruised up my left shoulder and nearly fell to my death. But I found one of the most gorgeous things. A tree, springing up from the face of the cliff with a bird's nest in its branches. It was thick enough for me to sit on and I saw the best view of the channel I'd ever laid eyes on. Only me and that bird ever saw that. My point is this. That bird would one day hatch its young and they'd wake to that amazing view. And nothing would ever match that beauty again
If we live our lives as humans viewing things as a chain of events with no meaning or knowledge in the end that matters, then our lives will have no meaning. Only through scraping and bruising ourselves in the climb do we gain freedom. That's what freedom is. Its being allowed to start at the bottom and bleed on the way up. That bird may be able to fly and may see beautiful things from birth. But that's,not freedom.
