Bitter Winter

Bitter Winter

A Poem by Judy Ponceby

Winter teeth bite
deep and harsh.

Snow does fly,
and ice imprisons.

Chill the bones
to brittle ache.

Hibernation
has its season.

Branches spike
the low hung clouds.

Hunters hunger
on hidden trail.

Skittish prey plays
hide, don't die.

Life is sparse
during Winter's reign.

This makes me think of the birds pecking at the dried berries on the tree outside my window. They barely give them a look, in the summer and fall; now, the berries are their life's blood. Winter is a time that seems dull and devoid of life, but the opposite is the truth in nature. Winter is a time of survival and living, when all that was created comes into play.

A enjoyable write indeed, about winter's splendor!

The style fits well to the theme, sparse and hard.Good work.

Winter is just a few numbers on the clock circle of seasons.
In reality, a time of rest for plants, and a time for struggle
for animals...like us.

This time of year, it is a stingy king..

"Life is sparse
during Winter's reign."

I enjoyed this poem, Ms. Ponceby..:-)

When it comes to winter...it is about survival of the fittest. A reality that we are often spared...unless you are homeless. A thought provoking write...thanks Judy. xo

Ah yes, Winter's reign..
I like the words, structure, and layout.
We have a Brown Bear in the city that refuses to take it's nap!
