Imagination

A Poem by Judy Ponceby

The inventive minds of boys
make their imaginations
come to life.

Enthralling battles with
goblins and dragons,
sorcerers and monsters,
carried out in finest silver armor.

Bewitching musings on
horrid witches
and maidens in turmoil.

Legions of hellions marching leagues
through giant vermin-infested
swamps and caverns the size of
cathedrals.

All of these epic tales
played out in the backyard,
on bicycles,
with sticks and garbage can lids,
with towels for capes,
and Spot the dog as the faithful
companion on all manner of adventure.

These are the means to greatness
for every boy and his dog.

My Dear Writing Friend Judy,
Your poem made me smile as long ago forgotten memories flooded my mind. I remember growing up in a place with on other playmates and my dog and I were of the best of friends. We would tackle all manor of evil ranging from dinosaurs on a bloodthirsty rampage to the U.S. Calvary trying to destroy my sleepy village of teepees. And we would always somehow come out victorious, well at least until we found that stray cat that would send my dog home with his tail between his legs.
An excellent poem that made me muse for hours and leaves me still smiling. Now if you will excuse me, my lead dog Prozac and I have a dinosaur to slay before my sweetheart calls me in for dinner. No really there is a dinosaur in my backyard!

Blessings, Laughing-Bear

This is an epic tale of adventure in a land of knights and swords. Boy wanting to be brave men and battle the elusive dragon. You did a great job with this poem and it took me on an adventure that I could picture in my mind.

The imagination of a child is an amazing thing. I think even more so with boys. My son can come up with some pretty fabulous tales. I can relate to this. Very nicely written.
