Serpents

Serpents

A Poem by Judy Ponceby

Slithering across the ground.
Slipping between blades of grass.
Sunning himself on a granite slab.
Tasting the air with his forked tongue.
Smooth skin scaled from start to finish.
Cold-blooded body warmed from above.
Stalking prey by scent and heat.
Striking swiftly with precision.

A good acounting of those slithery ol' serpents. When I was a kid, I killed every single snake I layed eyes on, but now I know that they weren't all villains.

I think that you were fair. The snake simply does snake things. He doesn't wish to steal into our homes and kill us (as do many humans) He's just trying to survive. I find snakes to be beautiful, graceful creatures.

The last word of this poem--"precision"--is an apt description of the care with which this work was created. Include keen observation and artful word-choice, and you have what Judy has produced--an excellent piece.

I like snakes. I don't abide the poisoness ones but the rest are pretty cool. A snake is most awesome to hold and interact with.

For some reason it makes me think of the personification of a snake, instead of just a snake itself. Maybe it's just because I know a lot of "serpents" in my life =P Very descriptive and I enjoyed the abundance of "S" words. =]

Are we talking about snakes or someone? Either way you've described it all well;) x
