Pondering.....

Pondering.....

A Poem by Judy Ponceby

Silence............absence of sound,
absence of meaning.
Why is there no response to questions asked?
Why is love dammed up like a great river
held back from flowing freely?
Tamed to the point of numbing ennui.
No rush of waters, crash of waves against rocks,
no quiet eddies straying to the frothing currents.
Only slow monotonous treading of a relationship,
left to dwindle into dying embers of a once
warm and inviting glow between two lovers.
Gone astray, grown away,  to separate lives.
Caring enough to maintain, not enough to transcend.
Living in parallel worlds, never intertwining.
Absence of sound, meaning, feeling.
Unable to bear life without meaning, joy, anger, and love.
Pondering the mechanisms, catalysts, for change.

Oh Judy, this is heart wrenching, and I pray, not autobiographical. Silence hurts when it rings the loudest.
Sad, yet beautiful writing.

I feel like I have to read this a few times to really appreciate it as much as I could. It's deep and well written. Great write :)

The idea of "absence of sound" in a relationship where love is thought to be all explosions and excitement is great =)

Ah, married couples who have drifted apart. Very nice. I better go make love to my wife.

That's evocative. You really give new life to classic imagery.

This really speaks to me Judy, as one who's been there and done that. It's a hard place to be, as anyone who has dealt with this can attest to. Taking those first steps to change is difficult, and sometimes it seems easier just to stay and stagnate, but it kills...slowly. You've captured this so well.

Oh, yes--that once hot flame, now a mere ember. If there was a pill to re-kindle that fire, you could sure sell a lot of them. I couldn't do it, but I can understand why some have a lover on the side. Romance is stronger than any drug.

Worse than anger--and even ridicule--is indifference.
Heartbreaking sentiment is expressed, here.
An intelligent, significant poem, Judy.

Every addiction stems from pain and every joy is born of freedom. F.
