Natural
decline, bringing about an age of being fallible,
The subtle shift from youth to middle age to being an elder,
Now using motion in economy, to prevent instability.
The vagaries of age, reducing confidence to hesitance,
as a step forward is an accomplishment once beneath notice.
Many rarely notice the shift in abilities of those close to them,
until sudden traumas occur, bringing them harshly to light.
But those living them daily, have learned to compensate as they can.
Either abhorring the day before them or embracing it as a challenge.
I pray as I move close to this eventuallity, that I see the challenge,
the possibilities for growth and learning in the subtleties of aging.
Yes aged things kickass like whiskey or older women yes ive matured alot over the years now its strickly 18 year olds for me

What a wonderful piece of writing, not only fine, fine language, but a moral in every line. Age must be something to glory in sometimes though, the fact there's no pretence any more, folk can do whatever without making apologies. I know from family and friends that not being able to do this or that is a pain, but there are compensations without apologies surely. I dont find this a sad poem but more a piece about honesty and sincerity.
Beautiful...to the Absolutely!
I am 51, in construction for over 30 years, and feeling it these days!
What a wonderful, truthful, forward looking piece.
Grace, Judy...you have it. You are going to be a Great Elder!
This wonderfully-expressed. Growing old gracefully, I think we all hope for that. The voice here shows the dignity of the elderly, I think this is far too often neglected by writers.
Oh boy---tell me about it. My tree-climbing days are waaaaay behind me. Now, just putting on socks is a chore. You being a nurse, I'm sure you know a lot about it.
ah, neatly done, judy. u capture this dilemna pefrectly. i, personlally, regret the loss of speed of thought and movement which is now apparent in everyday life. LOL, i still get there but, rather slower than i once would have. great write.
You have a wide range of talent Ms.Judy..I am enjoying your journey through thoughts, and glimpses of your outlook on life..from serious to whimsical.
This poem is a perfect example of the extent of that range.
Glad my name was on your dance card this morning.....
