What it Means to be a GardenerA Story by JuancheetoWhat it Means to
be a Gardener By Juancho Pedroche In a small school in Quezon City, a lot of my friends had small dreams"a
lot of them wanted to be popular, others wanted to be a theatre kid, but all I
wanted is to make the school a better place. I was never known as a student who
had any confidence, so I never really tried standing out until one day, I
became the student council president of my school. Ever since I was given this
kind of responsibility, I never really felt I was doing any good, only thinking
about how much stress this would be causing me and the whole student body of
the school. I didn’t want to do it anymore. And so, I walked up to the principal’s
office and had a conversation with her. “Ma’am, I have a request please.” I said with a dead voice. “What is it my dear?” she replied.
“Ma’am I don’t think I can be a part of the student council anymore; it’s
been too much stress for me.” “I don’t understand. Don’t you want to be the student council president?”
she wondered. “I really do, but I don’t think I don’t think I could really handle this
job.” I said and sigh. “Okay, if you ever change your mind, the spot is always open for you
since we’ll not be able to get a replacement for ten days. As I left the school I met a boy outside the gate taking care of the
small plants in the garden. I saw that boy for the past few days after school.
Seeing how small the plants were never made me think that they would ever
amount to anything, until one day I as I passed by the school I saw big and
beautiful flowers by the gate. And that’s when I realized that in order to
achieve greatness in what you love, you have to put the same amount of
dedication and time towards it. After realizing those words, I rushed back to
the office of the principal. “Ma’am is the spot for student council president still open?” I said with
a smile. © 2020 Juancheeto |
