Thief

Thief

A Poem by Y.F.

A silent nights’ creek,

which was ever so weak,

was enough to put chills down his spine.

He feared getting caught,

and his mind was at thought

that he might just be over the line.

The fool gave her trust,

an old story of lust,

a relationship doomed from the start.

She trusted him still,

and gave, of her free will,

both the keys to her chamber and heart.

A lonely dark hour,

he snuck in her tower,

his deeds as impure as his mind.

He crept near her bed,

while she laid there as dead,

her eyes open and yet oh so blind.

Before she could scream,

or awake from her dream,

he had opened her chest with his knife.

He then used his key,

to take all that was she,

her will, her devotion, her life.

This sounds like something that a poet or a drunk yet witty fellow would belt out at the pub about 150-450 years ago. One of those Grimm, but entertaining poems that congeals the blood and spreads a smile. I really like this a lot. I'm a sucker for rhyme and you do it so well. Good rhythm and pacing. Excellent read.

Absolutely love this. I agree with the reviews by The Raven King and The Flawed. You managed to condense a story into this poem with wit and finesse. It definitely has the feel of a period piece. That makes it all the most appealing. Both rhythm and rhyme are wonderful. It was a pleasure to read!

It's fantastic how you have condensed a full book in to a short poem.
I could imagine the whole thing from the beginning to the end, who they where, how they met, the love the lies the betrayal and subsequently the death.
But what do I know?
Well done.
