CanopyA Poem by Layla J OmoroseI was playing around with rhyming and this is what I came up with.Canopy Here…Come sit with me. Keep me company Under this misshapen canopy. Come and occupy my time. There look at the lime On the ground. Why is there a lime laying around? Under the canopy Come, talk with me. See up there Look at the animals with the red in their hair Birds with wings of flight They always take a gruesome plight. Come watch with me And look just ahead Do you see the thin thread? Invisible feet walk across Following the rules of their boss. It moves, Barely, Just enough so I can see it gleam in the sun. But under the canopy the sun cant reach Black Leech Crawl across your foot. There’s a train leaving in the distance
going “toot toot” This canopy with its black tops hides the truth You can’t see what’s happening to Ruth. Her stare is black and dull And her heart has sank. Because of his cruel prank. Tears silent as the canopy’s wind Unheard, unseen…who would they send? There goes that lime It’s just about that time. Come walk with me It’s a long journey do you have to pee? We have to make it there Next to the animals with the red hair. To watch the Birds as they take their last flight, Just before their destructive plight. Damn that lime…the time © 2012 Layla J Omorose |
