Shackled Chains

Shackled Chains

A Poem by Layla J Omorose

Shackled Chains

Place chains around my wrist

Shackle my ankles

Beat me

Scar my back

Make me work till my hands are blistered and my knees are weak

Destroy all around me

Just don’t enslave me

Don’t make me like you

I don’t want your ideals

I don’t want your opinions

I don’t want your culture

I don’t want your life

When you break my mind see real tears flow…

Strength of mind is immunity over any force, great poem

What I like most about this is that I didn't sense any anger in it, I felt the strength in it more than anything at all. Our bodies can heal and if it doesn't we can live with the pain or deal with the death, however our minds are much different. Our sanity is just a thin sheet of glass that we quietly walk over and if it cracks we will be lost for a long time in agony of the mind. Even a free person can be enslaved mentally and not even know it until they meet a real free person. Beautiful and strong poem that takes a look at the flesh vs the mind and the power each has over us.

Brilliant piece of writing here! I so loved the flow, imagery, all... I saw a strong willed woman inside this piece, we may be broken in strength but never in spirit. Beautiful..
