November Monday in Uptown

November Monday in Uptown

A Poem by Jake Hajer

November Monday in Uptown

Wrinkle-crack
Skin burning
through months
Of clouds

Cement city cogs
Drains swirling dregs

Coffee blood and gum band-aides
With homeless surgeons feeding of
HMO garbage cans

Snarling snare drum EL
Sparking
Funeral procession
rhythm

Heavy bars
For us dogs
drooping eyelash
awnings
Marquees of chasing tail
lights

People shiver
even in the heat
They cry
in the light
Amongst everyone

in the emotion
Of waving wounded
Fire escape appendages
Of dried blood rust
Square buildings
Lean to each other
And Moan
in steam

Tough bungalow
Living blue and
Cops waiting
