September

A Poem by J.L.R

September

And I wondered

breathing slowly

to drink the air

down smooth.

If these tomatoes on my sill

would ripen

plump and juicy

before decaying spots

take over.

Perhaps,

before I even take

a bite.

It's the ones which are left on the vine the longest that wind up the sweetest.
