Long Drive

Long Drive

A Story by Jray
"

It's more of free writing.. actually, I wrote this on my mind while I was in the shower. It's about how driving could be incorporated with life.. the journey.. destination.. choices.. and obstacles.

"
Life is like a long drive. And your car? well, it represents your beliefs. where could it take you, your vision. And just like any other drivers, it takes a lot of time and patience in order to perfect the art of driving with finesse. Having a great deal of discipline could lead you far beyond what little you expected from yourself. But just like driving, the road is not always smooth and easy. Sometimes, we find ourselves caught up in a bumpy ride or even lost in the middle of nowhere, but who cares? It's not about how long are you gonna get to your destination, it's about the journey itself, what it teaches you. Sometimes, we need to stop over for repairs or even take a quick nap. But it doesn't end there. It doesn't mean that just because your car stopped somewhere along the road, you're going to end your journey. Who knows? it might be best for you to let go for a while and relax a bit. We sometimes even need to take detours, although most of us hates it for those who can relate, it's like a minor setback for our plans. It can be time consuming and annoying but we still have to do it if we want to get to our destination. We have to go on with our lives in one way or another no matter what setbacks we are experiencing at the moment. When you are driving in a unfamiliar place, you oftentimes ask for directions, right? Just like in life, you will never get by unless you ask for assistance or a little help, thus the saying "no man is an island". Go ahead and ask away because even geniuses asks questions. When driving, do you follow or observe traffic/road rules? are you the type that always want to be on the safe side of the road? or you're the type that wants to take on the challenge head on and ends up breaking the rules? either way, you'll get rewarded accordingly. Always keep in mind that in order to get ahead you need to leave someone behind. But it's a choice for you to make. Might be in a job or relationship or even in your own family.. sometimes, you just have to. Thus leaves you with the conclusion that it's not about how to get ahead, it's about why do we need to get ahead. And the moment you find the answer to that million dollar question, everything else will follow though. Are you thankful because GPS was invented? I am. It points us to the right direction and sometimes it even gives us the best route to take. it helps us with decision making but, at the end of the day it's still your choice to make. whether you follow your instinct or take the GPS's advice, it doesn't matter. cause it will always be there to support you until you reach your destination. That's the role of our parents and friends. They will give you a lot of advice, guide you, point you to the right direction but in the end, it's your life to live.
When traveling, you can't help yourself but to be anxious to arrive at your destination that you fail to see the beauty of the road ahead. you feel like the trip is taking too long and you tend to get bored. But why is it that when we decide to go back, it seems like everything is moving so fast that you don't even notice that you're back at the comfort of your own fireplace? Just like in life itself.. whenever we are facing difficulties or trials for the first time, we always pray for it to pass or wish that it was over. we sometimes grow impatient and get desperate. But like any other problems, once you get used to it... once you've already experienced the same kind of problem that you had before, everything is going to be a breeze you might not even notice that the problem is there.
Sometimes, we also need to drive through the storm for some very important matters and we often wish for it to be a brighter day. But your audacity could even save lives or gets you to a higher ground. And sometimes, why do we hesitate to stop along the road to help a friend in need? It is because we are too busy or consumed by the thought of getting to our destination as quick as possible. Our Car's brakes is there for a reason.. Slow down, make a meaningful stop.. Because there is a possibility that those people that you met on your way there will also be the same people you'll come across on your way back. Who knows you might need something from them too.
Just like driving, we need to move on from one location to another. We all have bitter things in life that we choose to hold on to, or sometimes, the joyful moments shroud your reality that there's something bigger that's going on around you and you fail to take notice. Learn to let go  and embrace the changes in your life. For you might not know what's waiting for you on the other part of the town.

Going off course is not an excuse in achieving your dreams. All you have to do is steer the wheel back into the right direction and keep going. Your car, your dreams, your vision.. they all might be in a total chaos right now.. but sooner or later, it will be fixed because it CAN be fixed. And when that time comes, all you have to do is shift to a higher gear and speed your way to your destination.. Life is a long drive... Enjoy it while you can. :)
