Long Road to Portland

Long Road to Portland

A Poem by Alex Borst

I came in with the sunshine
Drove out in the pouring rain
It's been a long long road to see your face
But still longer going home

A kiss that was eight years in the making
Though it grew sweeter with time
Still I'm back here on this train again
Tryin to get you off my mind

And it's a long road to Portland
Where that Spanish angel lives
And though I will see her again some day
For now, I will mend my broken dreams

You know I'm tired, run-down, and confused
And a little bit ashamed
It's hard to see what's up ahead
When you're staring at your past

And it's a long road to Portland
Where that Spanish angel lives
And though I will see her again some day
For now, I will mend my broken dreams

I came in with the sunshine
Drove out in the pouring rain
It's been a long long road to see your face
But still longer going home

A kiss that was eight years in the making
Grew no sweeter with time
Now I'm back here on this train again
Tryin to get you off my mind

And it's a long road to Portland
Where that Spanish angel lives
And though I will see her again some day
For now, I will mend my broken dreams

You know I'm tired, run-down, and confused
And a little bit ashamed
It's hard to see what's up ahead
When you're staring at your past

And it's a long road to Portland
Where that Spanish angel lives
And though I will see her again some day
For now, I will mend my broken dreams

When you're staring at your past
Nothing last forever
Never a day goes by
Lying is one thing, but denial is another
But there’s hope and I keep going farther

And it's a long road to Portland
Where that Spanish angel lives
And though I will see her again some day
For now, I will mend my broken dreams

----

I put the hook line in the beginning...and added the 8 lines per measure instead of the 4 lines...Also added 4 lines in the 2nd measure...and again put the hook...you can change the words...I inserted what I felt would go in line with the song...it's just a bit of a change and the order of things...but I like it...but again...its your work..and hope you have success in putting it to music...

Did you want this to be more a lyrical verse...than a poem...with your hook...put in there:

And it's a long road to Portland
Where that Spanish angel lives
And though I will see her again some day
For now, I will mend my broken dreams

at the start with the first stanza:

I came in with the sunshine
Drove out in the pouring rain
It's been a long long road to see your face
But still longer going home

---

I can see and hear this as a song...the cue in the third line give that clue:

It's been a long long road to see your face...

but I could be wrong...and your intent was just a poem...but if so --- I'd have at this again --- and give it all its worth...
