A Moonlit Dance of Broken Hearts and Broken Dreams

A Moonlit Dance of Broken Hearts and Broken Dreams

A Poem by -poet-

Sitting on a bench in the comfort of my arms

The moonlight softly streams through your hair

As the summer breeze gently warms

And blows away all our cares

I look you in the eyes and ask for your hand

To join with me in a late night dance

You rise and come close to where I stand

Our bodies start to sway in this moonlit romance

You press your lips close to mine

And whisper how you love me

I come closer still and embrace you for a long time

Telling you we can conquer anything

I wish this could last forever

Dancing with you every summer night

But the weather is getting colder

And I have to have you home by midnight

Thus our moonlit dance comes to an end

And I escort you home

I tuck you in and kiss your head

Summer has come to its close

I can faintly feel the chill of winters winds beginning to blow

Oh, come

Closer now

Lean, in

Against me

Tight

As, I

Whisper sweet

Nothings, in

Your ear

Softly

Will, my

Words bring

Illusions, of

Some happiness

Echoing

As, you

Drift off

Fall, asleep

And dream

And

While I hold you tight

I know we won't get a second chance at this

I wish that I could try just a little harder

And it could all be fixed

But

The truth of the matter is

I've given up everything I have

Now all I want is to get out

Or it will be the death of me

So

Sleep, now

Dream long

Of, our

Better days

And

Rest, while

You still

Can, because

I know

That

When, you

Open up

Your, eyes

You'll see

Clearly

That, the

Sweet nothing

Days, are

No more

And

I'll, apologize

As I

Lean, away

Lean away

Evermore

There is irony in the silver moon tonight

It's so beautiful

And just dark enough to hide the scars behind your eyes

You think you hide it so well

As we lay together looking at the night sky

Thinking I think your fine

I know your dying on the inside

You act like your safe, its perfect

In the alleged comfort of my arms

But I know thats not the worst of it

You just want to forget all the times I've brought you harm

Why don't you stop lying to us both

It would be better off that way

Because I hate knowing how you really feel about me

And having nothing to say

You may say its such a beautiful night

As you look me in the eyes

Now I'm dying on the inside

Can you see my scars in the moonlight

So came the winter winds

Softly from the east

Carrying you away

Further and further from me

I ran for miles and miles on end

Screaming out your name

Crying out for God to hear me and

Bring you back to me again

But you did not come back

You never came back

This is the price for building love on a

Wind on a

Whim

Ready to be

Swept away at

The slightest

Breeze

Evermore across the

 Sea

Now I sit on our favorite bench alone

My shadow staring back at me

The moonlight laughing at my pain

Knowing I will never dance again

It saw all the times we had

Whether they were good or bad it knew

Oh it saw the end and now it sits

High in the sky laughing

Because it was right all along

Our self professed endless love

Wouldn't last through the night

We were such fools punch drunk on foolish emotions

Calling each and every whim we had

love

And look where that's got us now

Both alone broken and ashamed

Another piece of entertainment for this laughing moon

How did it put up with our ignorance so long

Do you remember dancing through the night

How it felt to rule the world

Because the only thing dancing now

Are the tears streaming from both our faces

And they dance an endless dance

Twirling each other round and round till they shatter upon the ground

Reflecting in the moonlight

They form a glimmering corpse of

love

Wherever you are I wonder if you can hear the sound

The quiet cull

Of the moon laughing to the music of our dancing tears

Ever laughing at us still
