Seen and Seeing

Seen and Seeing

A Poem by JourneyBlu

I saw you yesterday
I was afraid
to see
to say
to flee
to stay
to embrace
to throw it all away
to breathe or hold my breath

I saw you yesterday
I believed what you had to say
I carved your bitter words
Sitting in the strange light of the bathroom
That seemed right
Cause I wanted you to see them too
But you wrapped me in a jacket
and never did read
Your words; my scars
Tell us both who we are

I saw you yesterday
With daunting needle extracting the marrow of my soul
I cried in silence
Letting you take
Letting you break
Letting you rage
Letting you have your way

I saw you yesterday
I was afraid
I let you wear yourself out
In fear I finally found sleep
I dreamed my dreams
Without you telling me what to think
I forgot to be afraid

I see you today
Without your words
you are smaller
than my shadow
Your needles took
nothing you can keep
You are the one who must wear
the weight of your deeds

I see you today
I am not afraid

This was powerful. I'm glad in the end they found strength to not be afraid.
