The CollectorA Poem by JourneyBluLong walks and longer roads Monotonously my feet pound the pavement The echoes of my footfalls barely noticed I have removed my shoes and left them far behind I find comfort in the feel of ashes underfoot Reminders of all the things I have set ablaze Too much time spent in the eye of the storm My life ripped away and madly spiraling around me Another thousand tears shed and still I could not run away Wind and fire and rain Each a truth and a lifeline and a thief I jam them all in my pockets Baubles of recollection that I shall not burn Eagerly they rob me of time And inevitably, life My photographic memory replaces hope I have no idea where this road goes But I keep walking towards a life that has no urgency Travelling through endless clouds of smoke How well I understand At any time I can stop sifting through the ashes I may surrender to the death I so long ago tucked into the dark corners of my mind Comforting knowledge that has propelled me like a rogue warrior through many moments Eventually I must empty my pockets So that I may stroll casually Towards life or away from it Whichever lies at the end of this road © 2012 JourneyBlu |
