The Missing Piece

The Missing Piece

A Poem by JourneyBlu

The Missing Piece

Puzzle pieces; the jigsaw kind

I am that last one that you can never find

And though you know, you look for me yet

Fair warning: making your own is as close as you’ll get

Maybe the puzzle company never even put me in the box

Perhaps I am in the secret dryer compartment with all of your lost socks

How many other pieces have you tried to jam in my place?

And isn’t it the worst that I belong right in the middle of the main character’s face

Not one of the hundreds of pieces of an endless blue sky

Nope, I’m the cheek and partial mouth of the main guy!

Now that you realize I’m missing, you must answer your one doubt

Do you keep wasting space and leave the puzzle out?

Do you angrily get the trash can and throw the whole thing; box and puzzle away?

Do you take it gingerly apart in sections to save for another day?

Perhaps if you keep looking I will magically show up

Are you sure you’ve looked for me beneath your coffee cup?

Boy am I a tricky, missing puzzle piece

I honestly hope your decision will bring you peace
