Circumstances

Circumstances

A Poem by Solidad

I tried to sleep you off,
Filling my mind with eons of hope.

Dreams lavished in "what if",

As if that could change the now.

My excuses built cities,

Plagued with infectious original sin.

You cast the first stone,

And it all fell to the ground.

With such a force of gravity,

I buried you with my skeletons.

Listlessly hoping we'd stop right there,

Harboring a truth that could kill my world dead.

Even in dreams guilt is an ethereal light,

Staining my gown.

Parching my throat,

A thirst no atonement could quench.

Holding your hand I drown

In our adulterous melancholy.

Aware of such circumstances,
You burned my skin with your lips.
