After Ever After

After Ever After

A Poem by Solidad

She's beautiful.
Well, she was.

In that lace gown,
Back when she breathed with ease.

Tendrils fell waist length.
Adorned with golden swallows.

Chestnut brown,
I could still smell her.

Before consumption
And jaundiced hope.

There were perfumed sheets.
Toasted romance and mistletoe kisses.

I left her rings on the night stand.
Neighboring a picture of our vows.

Next to my heart,
Separated an oxidized.

Lonesome and widowed,
Right where she left them.
