God ForbidA Poem by Solidad
Pressing my stethoscope ear you your chest
I couldn't find a heartbeat. Though you were there one minute and just like that...you were gone. Pleading with a god I don't believe in was like standing in a desert, screaming for rain. Heaven bound if there is such a thing; I wanted to ride your coattails there. Not satisfied with picturesque memories; I begged for a second chance. But god doesn't hear whispered voices that clog sore throats. Bartering with a soul I know he won't take because it isn't pure of heart. Rocking back and forth eyes weeping with undeniable reality. I hope for the mercy of something I can't see. But this is where the promise breaks. That solemn vow of forever. Where eternity frays its edges letting go at the sound of a breath. © 2011 SolidadFeatured Review
