Mother Always SaidA Poem by Solidad
My mother always said,
"Don't talk about religion or politics." I don't quote scripture She'd say, "Cleanliness may be next to godliness But Folded laundry doesn't qualify You for canonization." I don't talk politics She'd say, "People tend to get boisterous About things like abortion But Paying taxes doesn't qualify You for a seat in the senate." I tend to keep quiet But I do speak freely about things I understand. I know that the word "Politics" Breaks down to POLI meaning many And TICS meaning blood sucking parasites. My mother found no humor in this. She'd say, "And let's hear you blasphemous Ideals on God..." I sat there for a moment The wrong answer could get me Smacked So I smiled, "I didn't vote for'em So what is there to talk about?" My mother always said, "Shut up child, you're giving me a headache." © 2011 SolidadAuthor's Note
