Fallen on Deaf Ears

Fallen on Deaf Ears

A Poem by Solidad
"

You don't need to speak to be heard.

"

Dear Dr. Socially Acceptable,

I could've been absent to the world do to the silence I spoke.

Receptive only to motions and sound waves, on my words I would choke.

Denied my right with which someone to talk.

I needed my own language like a blackboard needs chalk.

So I used my hands instead of using my voice,

Because that was my prerogative,

my decision,

my statement,

my choice.

The way I chose to communicate

powerful,

strong

and anything other then meek.

Signed Socially Unacceptable,

The One You Forced to Speak

First off, this one is dedicated to my deaf friends. Love you guys and more then anything else thank you for teaching me your language.

This is about those who are deaf and are often forced to get cochlear implants or constantly solicited by doctors who refuse to accept that sometimes you don't need to speak to be 'heard' and you don't need to 'hear' to understand.

this is a powerful social statement~ not everyone wants the 'acceptable' standards of being offered (sometimes forced) by society~ everyone is unique and some fight harder than others against being compartmentalized by a society that only begrudingly tolerates differentiations that stray from the socially acceptable norms~Bravo! extremely thoughtful writing!~
